Description

This dataset presents occurrence records and composition of fish species collected in lakes Edward and George, Uganda.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 229 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Project Data

The project supported studies to increase the understanding and awareness of aquatic biodiversity in Uganda.

Title Agricultural Technology and Agribusiness Advisory Services (AATAS)
Funding World Bank & Government of Uganda
Study Area Description The study area was lakes Edward and George.
Design Description Sampling was conducted in selected sites on lakes Edward and George. At each site, sampling was done near the shoreline and ~200-500 m away from the shoreline.

The personnel involved in the project:

Herbert Nakiyende

Sampling Methods

Fish capture utilized gillnets set overnight. The nets used were of mesh sizes of 1 to 5.5 inches in increments of 0.5 inches.

Study Extent Sampling was conducted in nearshore and open areas of lakes Edward and George. Sampling was conducted in two research expeditions conducted in February and May, 2016.
Quality Control All scientific names were validated using FishBase (Froese & Paully, 2021) and the Catalog of Fishes (Fricke et al. 2021).
