Sampling Methods

In Lake Bunyonyi, Kiruruma river and Nyamuriro wet land, the observations were made in gillnets of mesh sizes of 1-2.5 inches set to capture fish. The nets were set and retrieved after a period of at least 2hrs. In lakes Mugogo and Nkugute, the observations were made in catches of fishers using basket traps.

Study Extent The observations were recorded in 2018 and 2020

Method step description:

  1. The observations in Lake Bunyonyi, Nyamuriro wetland and River Kiruruma were made during a sampling event to obtain information to justify stronger conservation measures in the areas sampled. Sampling locations were selected from the areas with significance for conservation and development projects.
